The Mars Project - page 1

I was working late one night when I fell asleep at my desk and had this vivid dream. In the dream I was in a meeting with Elon Musk and he was offering me a position to create and lead the Mars Planetary Digital Communications Project.

Its goal is to establish a planet-wide digital communication system on Mars. We will have almost unlimited funding, into the $illions of dollars!

Elon wryly smiled as he pointed out that there is no FCC on Mars. There is no government regulation of any kind. Mars is the new Wild West and we are the new Law! There are no pre-existing products. We are the first, and whatever we do will become the standard for the planet.

He told me NOT look to the past. No past technologies, no past protocols, no past ideas.  No WiFi, BlueTooth, 5G, Internet, javascript, python, unix, iOS, TCP/IP, or any other familiar names. These standards evolved in the past.

We want a complete re-think of all of the technology. We want to go back to first principles. We want to build it from the ground up, from scratch. We are starting over on a new planet, and *WE* are in charge!

We want to drop all the "baggage" of the past, and take all that we have learned from it and start over with a fresh point of view.
